The aunt of the prophet Hz. Mohammad, Hz. Umm Haram was one of the people who came to the island. Unfortunately, she died here.
This Mosque was built on where she died. It is called the third or fourth most important holy place for Muslims in some sources. Unfortunately, the mosque is neglected today. Also, other Turkish towns and mosques are neglected too. Because the Turkish left South Cyprus.
St. Lazarus Church is from 9. Century. St. Lazarus is mentioned in the New Testament and The Wrath of John. It is believed that he was resurrected by Jesus.
The church used as a roman catholic between the 13th and 16th. centuries and a mosque in the earlier Ottoman’s occupy in Cyprus. After 18 years, it was sold back to Orthodox again and it used as both Catholic and Orthodox church during the next two hundred years. Today, it is an orthodox belong to the Greek Orthodox church.
Larnaca Salt Lake is the second biggest lake after Limassol Salt Lake in Cyprus Island. Water accumulates in the lake during the winter months and draws during the summer months. Therefore, salt moulds show up.
The salt of this lake is an important part of Cyprus’ export. Flamingos visit this lake when their reproductive period. At the same time, the lake is on the migration path of a lot of bird species.
